3。5Usual disclamer, these are my messy notes taken while reading, not a structured review。 The names are probably written wrong, no I will not google the correct way to write them。 I am afraid of spoilers and I only listen via audio for this series。 I also reading this after Crossroads of Twilight, so spoilers for books 1-10 most likely!!! Here are the notes in chronological order: • I wonder if we will found out how Seuan and Morraine found out about the prophesy。 • Man I miss Morraine I keep thinking she would be back for the end somehow otherwise I fell like her character was very underused。• Also I don't believe we have so far by book 10 found out what she wrote to Thom?• Man Elide has always been awful huh。• When I first read the first book I kept imagining Chaihiern as Dubrovnik in Croatia since I have gone there in like 2019, but that is so funny cause like it's a very small city and also it's Kings Landing。• I feel like the testing for being Aes Sedai here is different from what I remember from book 2/3 what is the reason? Or am I wrong, I might be wrong I'm starti ng to forget details about the first books。• Definitely not enough Lan at 54%。• I am enjoying (view spoiler)[Catsuane (hide spoiler)] here。• Lmao Morraine the David Dobrik of Wheel of Time。• Morraine'ss so called "modesty" is kinda getting on my nerves I just don't remember anything like it in her character in the books。 Also she is really awful now and I don't know if she's alwasy been awful or she's alfun in this book specifically。• (view spoiler)[I find an interesting parallel between Lan luck and Mats luck。 Could it be connected? (hide spoiler)]• I feel like there should have been more。Ok so oerall I enjoyed this, it being a normal sized book definitely worked in ints favor but I do think it wasn't balanced well。 We get like 70% Morraine and 30% Lan and half of Morraine was just more boring Aes Sedai politics that I don't give a shit about。 I would have much prefereed to have seen more of Lan instead of that。 Also there was some bit from Lan's storyline that was alfully close to Mat and Tylin's whole bullshit that i really really did not enjoy。 Why doest Robert Jordan keep making women rapists I don't know but I am not a fan of this。 This must honestly be the second time Lan had sex with a woman he doesn't want to in the series and like please no more。 I again feel like the ending was rushed and needed more there。 I am still holding a smidge of hope Morraine is back in the end。 Anywho on to the next one。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book。 It’s not ground breaking but does give a nice backstory to the characters involved。 I was gonna read this book after book 10 but circumstances had me read it after book 8。 I’ve heard you can read it after book 5 but guess I will see after book 10 when I get there。 Enjoyable book which sheds light on the story。 But I would not recommend to start the series with this book。 You would not be lost, just not have a full understanding on why and how of what is really going o I really enjoyed this book。 It’s not ground breaking but does give a nice backstory to the characters involved。 I was gonna read this book after book 10 but circumstances had me read it after book 8。 I’ve heard you can read it after book 5 but guess I will see after book 10 when I get there。 Enjoyable book which sheds light on the story。 But I would not recommend to start the series with this book。 You would not be lost, just not have a full understanding on why and how of what is really going on。 Good book。 。。。more

There are some serious spoilers for the end of the WOT series no matter what point you read this at。 I would recommend reading it either after finishing the rest of the series or at not at all。 I read it after book 11 and feel as though the whole series has been spoiled by a throw away line in this novella

One of the aspects that annoys me with Jordan's writing is how he writes any types of relationships, and by the end of New Spring it became very frustrating because of one scene。 Jordan quite often doesn't show us the relationships and how they develop, but tells us about it, lot of the times by the characters reminiscing of something happening。 It really prevents me to connect to the characters and I'm just missing these scenes and seeing the characters interact with eachother。So what happened One of the aspects that annoys me with Jordan's writing is how he writes any types of relationships, and by the end of New Spring it became very frustrating because of one scene。 Jordan quite often doesn't show us the relationships and how they develop, but tells us about it, lot of the times by the characters reminiscing of something happening。 It really prevents me to connect to the characters and I'm just missing these scenes and seeing the characters interact with eachother。So what happened in New Spring: (view spoiler)[We didn't see Moiraine and Siuan saying goodbye at the end。 They don't know when they can see the other again and are aware that their quest is dangerous。 Moiraine said earlier that she loved noone else as much as Siuan, and before they're shared everything in their life, even were lovers。 And we don't see them saying goodbye。 In this case, Jordan didn't even tell us they have said goodbye。 I hated this。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

A lovely prequelThe only negative thing I could say about this one is that I wish it were longer because it was so good。 A great way for fans of the series to see familiar faces in unfamiliar situations。

Gordon

Just… OK。 It has the usual prequel problems of knowing who is safe and so forth, but it was at least interesting to see Moraine and Siuan as giggly youths。

Christopher Funk

Lots of words, not too much content though。 Decent story, too drawn out and the ending was rushed。

I really loved this book and with it I now completely finished the series! From Moraine's POV, everything she does seems so reasonable and like she's a real hero for trying to stop the Black Ajah and find the Dragon Reborn singlehandedly, why not give her all the love? This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 *Spoilers for all books* Pretty good! I was very interested to learn about this section of the past on which so much of the books hinge on。 I wish we could've gotten a "Kari Al'Thor" drop。 This makes me wonder why Egwene's Black Ajah killing spree didn't happen sooner under Suian if she knew so much。 Also, nice to find out why the Aes Sedai let Malkier die。 Definitely worth reading。 *Spoilers for all books* Pretty good! I enjoyed this book a lot。 Moiraine is one of my favorite WoT characters and I only felt joy reading her point-of-view chapters。 Some characters felt a bit out of character compared to how they act in the series that 'follow' this prequel。 For example, Moiraine and Siuan were pranksters which did add some nice lightheartedness to the book even if it felt odd at times。 Also, I never thought I'd say this in a WoT book review but the book felt far too short。 I would've wanted a bit more of the even I enjoyed this book a lot。 Moiraine is one of my favorite WoT characters and I only felt joy reading her point-of-view chapters。 Some characters felt a bit out of character compared to how they act in the series that 'follow' this prequel。 For example, Moiraine and Siuan were pranksters which did add some nice lightheartedness to the book even if it felt odd at times。 Also, I never thought I'd say this in a WoT book review but the book felt far too short。 I would've wanted a bit more of the events that happen between New Spring and Eye of the World to be included。 But for a Moiraine & Lan backstory, it did well。 。。。more

3。5 starsInstead of doing my usual bulk review for the "Wheel of Time" books I've decided to give new spring a seperate review, seeing as it is a stand-alone prequel novel。New Spring - Robert Jordan20 years before the start of the epic tale of Rand and co。 we find the world we've grown familiar with during Jordan's grand epic in a different state。 The Aiel war has ravaged the land and strange rumors are afloat。 It's in this chaos that we are reaquainted with some rather familiar faces。 If you've 3。5 starsInstead of doing my usual bulk review for the "Wheel of Time" books I've decided to give new spring a seperate review, seeing as it is a stand-alone prequel novel。New Spring - Robert Jordan20 years before the start of the epic tale of Rand and co。 we find the world we've grown familiar with during Jordan's grand epic in a different state。 The Aiel war has ravaged the land and strange rumors are afloat。 It's in this chaos that we are reaquainted with some rather familiar faces。 If you've read even the first few chapters of "The Eye of the World" you'll be familiar with Moiraine Damodred, one of the most iconic and beloved characters in the entire series。 However, she isn't quite the older mentor figure we know and love。 New Spring serves as an origin story of sorts for three of the major characters tied into the destiny of the Dragon Reborn, that being; Moiraine, Siuan and Lan。 Seeing these younger versions of the characters was an absolute highlight of the book, I mean who doesn't have a slight book crush on Moiraine at this point? However I would say that that's also where one of my complaints comes in, this book really only gives proper time to shine to these three characters and your experience will also vary drastically depending on your own familiarity with our main players。This also feeds into the world building, depending on just how familiar you are with the lore will drastically help to actually understand the importance of the things going on。 For example, the Aiel war is one of the big events that happen pre-Eye of the World and has a huge role in setting up the main story, in this book you just kind of know a bunch of gingers came out of the dessert and went stabby stab stab。So yeah, I can't exactly recommend starting here。 I also don't believe this was Jordan's intend as he spend words upon words introducing his world in a meticulous fashion feeding us just the right amount of information to be surprised around every corner。 If I were to say where I would read the book I would have to say AT LEAST after book 5 or after book 10 which is when it was originally published。My final and biggest complained is that I found the books story to move rather slowly and not very eventfully for the majority of the book。 If I didn't love these characters as much as I do I probably would have been very bored for most of the pages。 That's not to say I don't think this is a journey worth undertaking however, seeing these characters so young and un-experienced has really added to my experience with the main series。 Seeing where Moiraine found her drive to find the Dragon Reborn and keep him save as well as how her bond with Lan began are by far the highlights。In conclusion, this is a book I can recommend to any and all wheel of time fans。 While it's certainly not essential to understanding the main plot of the series it adds enough extra layers to make it more enjoyable。 。。。more

A slightly shorter prequel in the Wheel of Time series。 I enjoyed the backstory on 2 favorite characters very much。 Glad I read it in the middle of the series。 Could be read as a standalone I think。

this book did a whole lot of nothing before it got to the point, but it was an excellent point when it finally got there。 i think this could easily be read at any point in the wheel of time series, but i'm glad i read it after book two, because there are allusions to lan and moiraine's rocky beginning in that novel, so it was nice to be able to go back and witness that as it occurred。my one complaint is that, ultimately, i do feel like to much time was spent with the two separate and not enough this book did a whole lot of nothing before it got to the point, but it was an excellent point when it finally got there。 i think this could easily be read at any point in the wheel of time series, but i'm glad i read it after book two, because there are allusions to lan and moiraine's rocky beginning in that novel, so it was nice to be able to go back and witness that as it occurred。my one complaint is that, ultimately, i do feel like to much time was spent with the two separate and not enough time with them together, so their bond/mutual respect wasn't as fleshed out as i would have liked。 and, let's be honest, moiraine is petty af, which is definitely not what i expected。 。。。more

Wanted to read this before A Memory of Light, but after some Sanderson WoTs, both so I could compare Sanderson's writing with Robert Jordan's and also for a sense of nostalgia。 The comparing idea didn't work so well as New Spring is arguably the slowest book in the series, but the nostalgia part worked great both for the characters (especially coming on the heels of Towers of Midnight) and for Robert Jordan。 It's difficult to give it a rating so I think I'll just set that aside and mull on it fo Wanted to read this before A Memory of Light, but after some Sanderson WoTs, both so I could compare Sanderson's writing with Robert Jordan's and also for a sense of nostalgia。 The comparing idea didn't work so well as New Spring is arguably the slowest book in the series, but the nostalgia part worked great both for the characters (especially coming on the heels of Towers of Midnight) and for Robert Jordan。 It's difficult to give it a rating so I think I'll just set that aside and mull on it for a while。 On to the finale! 。。。more

I tried to get back into this series。。。。。。 I just can't。 I previously read the first 4 books in this series, I loved the first 2 books and had a very very hard time finishing the 3rd and 4th books。 That was a couple of years ago and I wanted to give this series another go, I thought starting with the prequel might be a good idea。 It was not。 I honestly don't think I can bring myself to read another book in this series。 With the Amazon tv series on the horizon, I think will just wait for that ser I tried to get back into this series。。。。。。 I just can't。 I previously read the first 4 books in this series, I loved the first 2 books and had a very very hard time finishing the 3rd and 4th books。 That was a couple of years ago and I wanted to give this series another go, I thought starting with the prequel might be a good idea。 It was not。 I honestly don't think I can bring myself to read another book in this series。 With the Amazon tv series on the horizon, I think will just wait for that series and hope it's as good as I hope it will be。 My issue with these books lately is that it feels like there is so much filler, nothing happens for long stretches and that's fine if I'm enjoying the characters but I can't find myself really enjoying these characters anymore。 Maybe in the future I'll give the series and try。 。。。more

This book was so much fun to read and I loved so much about it。 The smaller scope (in comparison to the main series) made everything feel so cosy?? It was a joy to get more backstory of Lan, Moiraine and Siuan and some insight into their perspectives, especially with Lan as his is often missing from the main series。 The pacing was excellent and I was thrilled that we got some Borderlands world-building。 Finally, seeing the Aes Sedai trial happen on page was so interesting。

I finished the Wheel of Time series a few months ago and realized I had missed this one。 I have a weird love/hate relationship with these books。 I realized I missed some of these characters after not reading about them for a few months, but I'm not sure if it's because I enjoy the characters or just because it took so damn long to get through the entire series so I couldn't help but feel like they were part of my life! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This one was sort of like a Stephen King novel in structure, first 50% of the book was slow but great and interesting character developments and story building, then the 2nd half was pretty consistent adventure。 The cities Canluum and Chachin in Kandor were both so awesome the way I pictured the descriptions in my head。 Maybe Amazon will do a miniseries in the future for this one。

Wow。 This book adds so much depth to the dragon prophecies, the one power, and history of characters we thought we knew until this point。 Lan and Moraine are now added to my list of favorite characters in this series。The fight sequences with Lan are poetic。 After reading the slog of books 8, 9, & 10 I forgot what a master of language Jordan is。 Every character voice is so clear and unique。

This was such a breath of fresh air after finishing the slog。 It was great to see Moiraine and Lan again, and I appreciated how much this book humanized both characters。 As much as I loved both of them prior, they often are very guarded and mysterious (especially Moiraine)。 Seeing them both here helped deepen their characters in very important ways。While the book doesn't really affect the series as a whole, this was definitely a fun and much-needed palate cleanser leading into the final four boo This was such a breath of fresh air after finishing the slog。 It was great to see Moiraine and Lan again, and I appreciated how much this book humanized both characters。 As much as I loved both of them prior, they often are very guarded and mysterious (especially Moiraine)。 Seeing them both here helped deepen their characters in very important ways。While the book doesn't really affect the series as a whole, this was definitely a fun and much-needed palate cleanser leading into the final four books。 。。。more
